No Worries Project

Recently, project lead Suzy and Davede had a very informative meeting with several national employers who advised what we must consider when developing resources and events to combat discrimination in the workplace. They were all very enthusiastic and supportive of a peer-led and informed approach.

They advised us that being inclusive is very topical right now so what we offer needs to focus on how to bring about a more inclusive workplace. That was great to hear, because that is exactly what we’d like to do for people who experience mental distress.

Our project partners, Workbridge, Workwise and MSD Industry Partnerships attended and shared their knowledge and experiences of workplaces, people seeking employment, managers and colleagues.

PeerZone and the lived experiences can make this project simple and real which will encourage the acceptance of the messages. Selwyn Cook, Workbridge.

We received several clear messages:

  • ‘keep it simple’
  • ‘time is money’ so try to fit in with other initiatives that are happening in the workplace.
  • find the ‘right’ person in each organisation to structure/deliver in a way that fits with them.
  • start with about 5 employers only so you can say look what we did here and there.

At PeerZone, we believe a face to face approach can be most effective and so we want to develop and deliver discussion groups in workplaces. No Worries is a national project and so we will be looking to recruit and support people with experience of mental distress who can go to workplaces during morning tea and/or lunch breaks to meet and talk with workers about mental health and distress.
